Any help would be appreciated. I can't figure out what these white "growths" on my tomato stems are. More information: * Palm Desert so it's very hot/desert climate. Almost no "tomato" bugs like caterpillars. We have tons of ants and some flying insects but that's about it. Picture attached and I played with the image to highlight the growths. COMPLETELY stumped as to what they are. Again ANY help/advice appreciated.

I found a hi-res image (see attached). It's an insect and groups of them. There are hundreds. So what is it and do I need to try and get rid of them? It's the desert here so not too many common garden bugs. I have no clue what these are. Again any advice appreciated.

Look up sapsucking "mealy bug" and "mealy bug destroyer larva" and that should set you on the trail. Good luck!

I second that. Mealy bugs. YUCK! I had them all over my hostas last year - and I thought that they only attacked house plants! (LOL) Probably wouldn't be too difficult to pick them off. Linda
