My tomatoes this year are extremely slow and because I'm afraid I won't get many, I went and bought a case of Field Tomatoes (Roma's) on Monday. At the time of purchase they were slightly under ripe and spotless.... Two days later I have varying degrees of this.... Even though they aren't quite ripe I'm going to have to make my salsa this weekend for fear of losing them if I wait until the following weekend. Any ideas what may have caused this? And how long I can continue ripening them?

Looks to me like anthracnose with the sunken lesions and concentric circles. IT's very common when the temps go down in the fall, If you Google something like..... tomato anthracnose ....you can read more about it Hope tha thelps, Carolyn.

Is it safe to assume they're still okay for making salsa with?

Yes, they are safe to use b;c the fungus that causes it is not a human pathogen, but I wouldn't use them since most of the time when anthracnose appears in the Fall the fruits have gotten watery and usually they taste on the sour side, But you be the judge on that. Carolyn

Thanks Carolyn - your help is much appreciated. We tasted one of the tomatoes last night and it seemed a little watery but not sour. We're going to peel and start to cook them down tonight before it gets too bad. Thanks again. Barb
