I've been growing tomatoes in big containers on my porch all summer. Now, all of a sudden, something is picking them?? I found one mostly-ripe one on my lawn, split as if from being dropped, and full of ants so I couldn't tell if it had a bite out of it or not. Second one I found was about 1/2 ripe and was about 20 ft. from the vines. Third was a little green one with a small bite out. What could be doing this? In my city-country neighborhood we have coons, (which I rarely see), ratties (all too often!) chipmunks, squirrels, falcons and even the occasional coyote. The odd thing is, most of the tomatoes on my vines these days are on the long limbs reaching for the sun, hanging about 2-3 feet past the porch rails and about 6-8 feet off the ground. Any guesses??
