Cause of voids inside tomatoes

After several years of Mule Team being the best performer in my garden, this year I simplified my life by planting (almost) exclusively Mule Team.

The plants were from the same seed I had purchased last year---and been delighted with---however this year the fruits, which looked picture perfect on the outside, had large voids inside. The meat of the vast majority of the tomatoes only filled 75% (more or less) of the fruit.

When you picked up and held the fruit, you could squeeze the sides and feel the hollowness---similar to squeezing a red pepper.

I did have two plants of Box Car Willie which performed well---nothing really to complain about.

I haven't had any luck Googling the symptoms---any ideas?

Thanks!
