What happened to the stem and stem leaves ? !!
|
That's not the stem end, it's the blossom end that has the little green bubble.

It is indeed the blossom end: they are MY tomatoes, I picked them, I just haven't seen this happen before these three. Since you don't believe me, here's another picture. Stem end up on the left, blossom end weirdness up on the right. Has anyone else seen this happen?

One of the variations on cat-facing
|
Maybe a strangely crossed seed, similar to some gourds !. The growth looks like a green zebra !!

Images below and loooking through It think Jeanne may be right on since I do see 2-3 pictures with blebs at the stem end secondary to catfacing. Carolyn
Here is a link that might be useful: catfacing blebs

CAT FACINGS are irregular, without a definite pattern. What we see here is very orderly , 3 fruits with almost the same pattern. TOO SYSTEMATIC !

Thank you ladies! It's the end of the season for me, so these are 3 random tomatoes that have done this from a plant that has produced a whole bunch all summer. The plant was tagged as a Roma, but has never given me a tomato bigger than grape size, so I'm not certain that the tag was accurate. Had another Roma-type tomato (Golden Milano) and that gave out stereotypically Roma sized tomatoes under the same conditions. ::shrug:: I suppose it could indeed be catfacing since it is just three of a hundred or so? It was just so... weird!
