is the size of the core dependant on any growing practice?

i like a small core. are there variates that have "small cores"? if so what are they?

Although not entirely sure about this, I don't think the size of the core is dependant on growing practice. I think it's all about the variety of the tomato, and that beefsteak varieties have little/no core (Big Beef, Brandywine, etc.)

cores are often more pronounced in flattened and "boat shaped" fruits where the stem attachment is depressed into the fruit.

like these

They tend to be less pronounced in fruit with smooth rounded shoulders where the stem attachment is not as depressed into the fruit.

Environment would be a factor on the degree of severity for such varieties that already have a tendency toward it, as weather effects the flower/ovule development.
