Cleaning up after late blight?

Posted by catherinet z5 (My Page) on

I'm getting ready to put the garden to rest for the winter. I had the best season ever for my tomatoes........until around September, when they all got late blight, and died quickly.
I usually just burn my tomato plants in the trash burner in Oct/Nov because of the disease they can harbor.
Should I do anything more this year, because of the blight?
I will plant the tomatoes in a different part of the garden next year, but is there anything I should be doing to the area where they grew this year? Should I do anything to the tomato cages they grew up? They will be out in the weather all winter.
Should I try to burn the areas where the tomatoes grew this year?
Could late blight turn into early blight next year if the area isn't cleaned properly, or are they 2 different diseases?
Was the late blight more from the weather conditions this summer (very cool), and might be different next year, if the weather is different?
Thanks for your help.

RE: Cleaning up after late blight?

There are many threads here about Late Blight, clean up, etc., that can be found by doing a search at the bottom of this first page but I thought that perhaps the most useful information for you would come from reading through the LB Cornell FAQ's which should answer all of your questions.

If it doesn't, please just ask here in your thread.
