Tania, you sent me a message from Garden Web but I can't answer you since you did not provide a return personal e-mail address for yourself.

If you want to contact me please use my e-mail address which is:

cmale@aol.com

Thanks,

Carolyn

Posting your address is certain to get you a lot of spam. Indirectly it got you this. Happy Holidays.

Marv, I get spam stuff all the time, but her message to me was a good one, but instead of using her own return em address she used garden web in which case I could not get back to her.

And this is the only way I can think of getting in touch with her,

Most people have listed their email in their profile page here. Who is going to come looking for emails in this forum ? GW is the only one who can give away members email. But they won't do that. JMO

This thread reminds me of when I was 10 years old and got caught red-handed by my Ex-Marine grammar teacher whispering to a girl in pigtails:

"Mr. PupillaCharites, if you are going to interrupt us with something interesting to say, please share it with the rest of the class, or I'm going to send you to the principal's office for a good paddling."

So, what tomato is this all about? People want to know.

RE: Tania From Russia

No single tomato variety, more complicated than that.

She first offered to get me any Russian ones I wanted and gave a link to a seed site in Russian.

But her main issue was that she wanted some seeds from a US place, had paypal and credit cards but they wouldn't ship to Russia so was asking me if they shipped to me if I would send them to Russia.

Now you know WHY I was trying to reach her since what she sent was from GW so I hoped she was checking in to GW sometimes.

RE: Tania From Russia

Sounds like her interest fizzled, which is too bad since it is now an interesting story and fun, and no tomatoes were hurt in its making.

You couldn't PM her back through the GW mail because she had email receiving deactivated? Bummer. I have a few geologist and chemist friends I work with in Moscow and Perm who I'll meet up with in January. I'm glad you just posted this because I never though to ask them to bring some tomato seeds. Now all I need is a couple of interesting sites. But with the ruble problems, and cross border currency issues, I think your Tania was very enterprising proposing the trade. Maybe she'll be back, you never know.

All the Russians I deal with have extended US family or business contacts and have been forced to deal in cash lately. Many here, for a small commission will do these sorts of things since it is part of the burocracy they deal with daily. But like minded enthusiasts are always great.

Carolyn, you ought to modify your profile to include your email. I think lubadub and Seysonn have good points. JMO but to have your email there is better than randomly circulating it in 25+ misc. GW posts over the years ... from a spam perspective if I think about that.

RE: Tania From Russia

I know Tania tomatobase has stopped shipping to Russia as most of the seeds will get lost. Gets to be risky to invest any amount of $$ or rare seeds into it, unless you have someone traveling.
Also many seeds sold online do not come true to type either I think Russian tomato forum has some ratings for which companies are the worst...

Small tip, if you need to post your email address, it helps a little, if you disguise it by posting it as….

RE: Tania From Russia

This past week my password to my browser was hacked and it's my entree to the net. No way do I want to discuss it here, has been in detail by those who received the bogus e-mails and some of them are computer experts. Just don't think that your ant-virus or malware stuff you have on your computer will stop password problems from happening and what happened is too complicated to discuss here.

My browser informed me of the problem the same day some recipents did and said to change my password, using their suggestions for a high security one and I did.

So no, I am not going to list my em address in my profile.

And I have several long time friends in Belarus, Germany and elsewhere who send me Russian varieties for my seed offer elsewhere. And until recently I was sending seeds to Russia. And of course Tania lists many hundreds as well

I keep no address book online for obvious reasons, but have perhaps thousands of e-mails over time from those who want to participatre in my seed offer since they have to send me an e-mail to request my address so they can send me a SASE. Those outside the US send me an em with what they want and I pay all the postege back to whatever country they live in, which is not cheap, thus lessening the money in my dark bittersweet chocolate budget. LOL

RE: Tania From Russia

Sorry to hear about what sounds like a description of a hacked email account and a limited list of contacts that were spammed using your online email account.

A month ago, a trojan malware nailed my computer and it was hell. I torched the compromised operating system on the old hard drive which had as many holes as cyber Swiss Cheese (Emmental cheese), then ran triple virus cleaning programs on the old drive, and bought a new drive to reinstall the operating system and now have the old one accessible as a data drive with all the old directory structure and files intact, and a completely new strategy to isolate my main drive.

So, it's a cyber jungle out there and it seems to be a free-for-all with no perfect strategy excpet to be skeptical and vigilent at all times.

Mailing all that internationally on your own dime, the way rates have gone postal ... next time you stick your hand in the cupboard for a chocolate you might only find a bittersweet postage due notice LOL
