so what is the deal with marigolds anyway

I know people who always grow marigolds, partly because they like them and partly because they say these flowers have their uses in the pest control. Marigolds are not my favorite flower but if there is solid enough testimony out there then I will interplant them with my 'maters. Anybody? Thanks in advance.

If you don't like them, don't bother. Here, marigolds don't accomplish much of anything but to attact thrips and spider mites (your area/situation may vary). In addition, they aren't very useful in helping to manage nematode problems like they are sometimes reputed to do. But then, doubtful you have nematode problems in your area anyway.

I'm not to sure what they would do for tomatoes, but for other veggies, I heard people used to plant them around crops cause they keep the rabbits out. Something about the smell, don't know how true it is.
