what's wrong with my tomato plants?

We got some moneymaker tomato plants from a wonderful organic garden. The day after we planted them into pots, the leaves turned yellow, then brown, then they rot off. This happens mostly at the bottom of the plant. It seems like the leaves at the top and new leaves are green and healthy (so far).

The soil is organic potting soil that we grew tomatoes in last year. Could this be a fungus that grew in the soil? Check out the picture, and please help!
