Ed, I don't think you're going to find a soap spray all that effective on leaf miners. And as far as using any soap spray, you wouldn't want to spray when there is any direct sun on plants, or the plants could be burned. In addition, soap sprays do have a tendency to make plants photosensitive.

To find out more about the spinosad, I'd recommend a google search. Also, there was an IPM link in one of the old threads that discussed the use of spinosad.

And not just b'c of problems with spraying in the sun, as Suze has mentioned, rather, contact sprays don't work b'c the leaf miners are inside the leaves.

Carolyn, who feels that the newer systemic organic, less toxic inducers of tolerances supposedly to many things, and I mean products such as Messenger, aka Harpin, and Spinosad and others, just haven't had much of a chance to show what they can and can't do. And that's b'c so few home gardeners use controls, as they should with new products. At least that's my opinion, but by all mean Google Spinosad and see what you find, other than commercial PR.
