Tomato Pests & Diseases

Very small black bugs & leaf tearing

I'm starting to find many tiny black insects with wings less than a millimeter is size on the shaded parts of the leaves on my tomato plants, along with the stems. Where the bugs are present, tearing of the leaves in present as well. Does anyone know what kind of bugs these are and how to treat them? I live in the Toronto area (Canada).

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Grant

The critters are aphids. (Some of the small black stuff is simply debris.)

The tears are unrelated. Have you had hail? or strong winds?

In any event, the tears aren't a problem to the tomato's health.
