Update on Lemon Boy Lamentations

A while back I posted here about a sick Lemon Boy plant with stem lesions etc., and Carolyn was kind enough to respond, but it was difficult still to determine what was wrong with the plant. As time has passed I have ruled out late blight because the plant is still kicking. Grey mold had been suggested as a possibility - I'm still not sure if it matches pictures/descriptions of this. But what I can say is that a Daconil application seems to have helped retard further foliage symptions. The "pith necrosis", however, is still present in lower areas, so I am still losing branches at a moderate rate, and the stem lesions are still there. A new development is extreme root primordia all over the branches. This says to me that the plant is so compromised in its vascular abilities that it is trying to find secondary means of getting water/nutrients. I am not sure I am right about this, but that's what my instincts are telling me right now. Also, a plant disease specialist at the state university thought it might be bacterial canker. She said it was my call whether to yank the plant or not and that the condition may or may not communicate to the other plants in the bed (so far I don't detect more than early blight in the other plants). So for now the Lemon Boy still lives and has lots of green fruit on the top 50%. Hopefully it will squeak through to ripeness stage.
