Chewed up tomato leaves

Posted by snoop92 (My Page) on

Hi all,

I've noticed that the leaves on my tomato plant look like something has been eating the leaves. There are big holes in the leaves. Kind of looks like someone tore up pieces of the leaf. So, the leaf looks like swiss cheese, or there are big torn out pieces.

I would post a pic., but I haven't figured how to do that yet.

Does anyone know what the culprit might be? I'm growing my plants in Earthtainers outside my apartment building, against a wall. I did not have this leaf problem before when I was gardening in another part of town. So, this is new to me.

I want to know how I can stop this from happening! I sprayed some organic stuff that's supposed to kill bugs, etc. But, not sure if that will do it.

Thanks.

Brand new to this web site. I too have tomato leaves with swiss cheese and smaller holes in the leaves. I did find tiny little green worms when I hosed the leaves and brought them to the table where I could see them. What do we do? I am in California.

I'm also new to this forum, been following it for about a year. I've noticed the same chewed holes in my leaves, and also have found what appears to be tiny black droppings on the leaves. Found one 1" green worm about two weeks ago, but none since. I've been searching a couple times a day. I live in Nebraska, anybody have any insight?

those are hornworms, green-hook on the tail and leave black droppings. If you type in hornworms in the search box at the top of the page you can get advice on different ways to get rid of them. I have them too! :(
