leafminers & wooden-like stalks

Hi everyone,

Please excuse any etiquette mistakes, this is my first posting and my first garden. I have tomatos, cucumbers, bellpepper & basil plants. I had a wonderful spring tomato season, but now the leaves have white winding trails, which google tells me are leafminers, and rarely a tomato. The stalks/stem of the plants look wooden, and they are very tall with leaves only at the top. The leafminers are also all over my cucumber plant (which is new and has no fruit yet), but basil and pepper are fine. Would you mind pointing me to some basic guides or tell me if I have to destroy the plants entirely? Will they die if I cut off all the leaves? Thanks so much, again I apologize if this is too basic a question.
