Anyone have any idea of what this was? I've never seen anything like it!

Now don't laugh but it looks to me like what's known to me as dog barf fungus. LOL Yes, I could go look up the proper name but dog barf fungus has such a nice ring to it. LOL

Just a common saprophytic fungus that hangs around. Comes in many colors, likes it where it's moist, not to be eaten, just remove and discard.

But I'm curious. You say it's a gooseberry plant but I know gooseberries to be in the genus Physalis, not Lycopersicon, which a tomato belongs to.

I meant to say my yellow gooseberry tomato plant, lol. According to the seed description, it should bear sweet 1 inch yellow cherry toms. Wish they would hurry up and ripen!

So before I looked up dog barf fungus, which the name alone made me laugh, I was wracking my brain trying to figure out how in the world my dog managed to yack on my plant, as she isn't tall enough to do that! Oh I am such a dork!

The real name is Myxomycetes, and the sites I went to while researching say it's not harmful, so that's good. It was pretty creepy though - I was afraid that a swarm of ultra strange insects would come flying out of it when I poked it! I admit I suffer from a bit of insect phobia!

It's a fungus, all right. Myxomycetes are the slime molds. Cool find!
