I think my tomatoes are deathly sick :(

Hi,
I have six tomato plants, all of which were doing fairly well until about a week ago, except for my Park's Whopper that has blossom end rot. I live in NW Georgia and for about a week now we've had good, soaking, wonderful, much-needed rain almost daily. I'm not complaining one bit about that, but since the rain has been coming I've noticed the leaves have yellow spots. It began with one plant and now it is on five out of the six.

I've checked the Tomato Problem Solver, but the leaves on those pictures don't exactly look like mine...close but not quite.

Can you tell me what is going on with these? Am I going to lose my plants, and if not, what can I do to help them?

Thank you so very much!

Beverly,

It appears to be a slight magnesium deficiency - perhaps a leaching out of minerals in your soil due to the steady rains you've had. But other leaves seem to display signs of early blight as well - a fungus which can be controlled with Daconil, or Ortho Disease Control which is available at most home stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.). After the rains have passed, I recommend fertilizing your plants and see if that restores some greening to the leaves. You should also remove any leaves that have obvious signs of brown spotting or necrosis.

Teresa :)
