I have searched the forums and on line and discovered that the new friends making holes in my tomato plants are tortoise beetles, any suggestions on how to get rid of them without using a chemical, if it's possible?
Thanks!
Amy

RE: Tortoise Beetles

Hello Amy:

I have looked on the back of my insect killing soap, to see what bugs it kills.

It Kills: aphids, earwigs, grasshoppers, harleguinbugs, leafhoppers, mealygugs, Mites, (plant Bugs), psyllids, sawfly larvae, soft scales, spider mites, squash bugs, blossom thrips, whiteflies.

Maybe the Plant Bugs will kill Tortoise beetles.

The word Plant Bugs, is very open to assuming, Amen!!

I don't know for sure if this soapy Product is completely natural, but it have seaweed extract, and 90% of it product is not listed.

It's called Safer

I have never heard of tortoise beetles eating tomatoes. Are you sure this is what you have?

WHen they are on sweet potatoes , no control is necessary.

Here is a link that might be useful: Tortoise beetles

Thanks for the tips... it took me a while to even find out what they were... I had never heard of them before either, I couldn't figure out what they were until I did a search... I definately have them, I saw one adult and killed it but not before it layed eggs b/c I now have the larva... Yuck...I tried a product called garden safe we'll see how it works.
Thanks
Amy

Hi Amy! I know it's been a while since you posted this, but did you have any luck getting rid of the beetles? I have them on my tomatoes and cannot find much info. Thanks!
