I have many large heirloom tomatoes with white, wet blotchy spots on the SHOULDERS of the tomatoes, if, when left to develop, eventually consumes and rots out a portion of the fruit..could this be another version of blossom end rot?

Some of the plants are last years mortgage lifter seeds which may have had a case of BER early on in the season last year, but which then subsided..seemed to affect only the first fruit on the plant and once the plant got to producing, it sort of went away..

I have noticed none of the hybrids i have planted this year are affected..

What is this white wet spot and please advise..

I do not like to use pesticides so please help with an alternative solution...I keep picking off all the infested fruits and tossing them..I have close to 100 plants..

Is it too much uneven watering? Do i need to let the gardens all dry out?

I have searched the faq and many of the questions asked here but don't see anyone else in the same boat..

thanks,

ruth
