Tomato hornworm

rebs

I have removed what could only be the tomatoe hornworm (without wasp eggs on back) from several of my precious tomatoe plants. They have done significant damage by eating the small yellow flowers, young green cherry tomatoes and leaves off the plants. Just when I think I have gotten them all, I find a few more the next day. My garden is not large with about 10 tomatoe plants. How can I rid the plants of these feeders. I have read about Bt and Catepillar Killer. Is it safe for adults and children and dogs. Has anyone tried to care for the hornworm and seen it change into a moth? I tried to keep it in a mesh pavillion but it ate through the mesh. Please help!!!
