Tomato Pests & Diseases

I get these bugs almost every year after the main tomato harvest. They prevent me from harvesting through December as the plants slowly wither under attack. I've never been able to name them. Can anybody here ID them? I'm almost ready to spray a chemical on my garden, but I'd prefer not to. It's just too hard to remove them by hand. Any advice is appreciated. On a side note, last year I had a lot of grasshoppers, and I never saw these pests. I wonder if the grasshoppers fed on them.

Planthoppers.

They appear late season, typically on stressed plants.

They damage the plants by inserting eggs into the stems and by feeding on the stems.

Also keep an eye out for the dark, spiny youngsters.

Not sure that the grasshoppers fed on them; maybe someone else knows.

I use organic sprays when I have to; usually, Pyola from Garden's Alive.
