Blossom SIDE rot?????

I've been dealing with blossom end rot on a few of my tomato and pepper plants but came across this yesterday...

Dark concentric circles with some orange/yellow fungus-looking thing in the middle of it - on the side of the tomato; not on the end. Has anyone seen this before or know what it might be?

BTW I ate the "good" half and lived to talk about it- it was actually quite tasty!
