What's doing this?

I don't know if it's disease or insect, although after searching for pictures, I think the damage on the two smallest toms is from stinkbugs. I can't find pictures of the damage on the others. I haven't found any worms or grubs inside of other similarly damaged toms and the damage doesn't go very deep.
Now, I haven't gone out at night with a flashlight, and I know I should, but I'm a weenie when it comes to skeeter attacks.
Today I looked and looked and saw one bug...slender, black and red, about a half inch long, crawling on a tom, but I didn't see any others. I couldn't see any eggs under the leaves.
As far diseases go, I'm lost and lacking experience and the damage from the hailstorm a few weeks ago looks like a lot of different things to me. I'm being careful not to water too often, but we've had a few downpours lately (I know this can cause cracking). There's a lot of new growth and it's looking good.
I don't have a lot of product to use...I have Safer soap and Safer fungicide. I also have Sevin powder. I hope someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, or what I'm not doing right. Ok, now I'm just whining...sorry...here are the pics:

| The slender black and red bug you saw may have been a leaf-footed bug nymph, and they do cause spots like the ones on the two small tomatoes in the first pic. Just drop them into soapy water, smush them, or use the soap spray. I don't see any other damage from insects or critters -- just scars from the hail and some radial and concentric cracking that may have been caused by the rain. Nothing much you can do about that. -- BC -- |

| Thanks, BC, and sorry about the huge pics...I thought photobucket would reduce them. I sprayed the whole garden with the Safer soap 2 days in a row as it was cooler and cloudy both days. I also saw a few whitefly(but no eggs) and what I think are thrips. I also found aphids under the cuke leaves(bush type)...so I sprayed and sprayed some more. It rained quite a bit last night, but today there wasn't much movement on or around the plants. I'll just keep my eye on things and keep the soap handy. Thanks again for your help. |
