Some of my tomatoes have black edges on the seeds and black in the jellyish bit that surrounds the seeds. They also taste bad.

That's usually internal BER. If so, relax. Everybody gets it from time to time. Just cut out the blackened part and the rest should be okay. It bugs me when I find it, cause it messes up the seeds I want to save.
