I have many blooms on tomatoes, but most sort of drop off from half-way down bloom stem. You can see that the small stem is bent downward before they drop off. I assume this may be some sort of insect problem..maybe sucking. Today I found one tomato, half-ripe, and on it I saw many red insects. I reached for the tomato and they all instantly dropped to ground beneath plants and I could no longer see them.
I should have looked closely before I reached. I think they were very slender with long legs, maybe ant-like but somewhat bigger. Do not know if this is what is damaging the bloom stems.
I powdered well with Sevin but an hour later it rained a lot.
Anybody have any ideas that would help me identify and correct the problem? |

| I'm sorry I was not able to respond to your question in a more timely manner. Did you insects look like those in this linked picture? http://creatures.ifas.ufl.edu/field/bugs/cotton_stainer03.htm |
