Sudden Tomato Death Syndrome

cliffj

This is a new one on me. Three healthy plants in different rows of a garden of other healthy plants just shriveled up and died in a few short days -- and all at the same time. The main stems at the ground line appear to have died first. No warning signs of leaf spotting or insect damage, no nematodes on the roots. The two pictures show the dead plant and a close-up of the main stem at the ground line. Any ideas of what killed them?

Thanks for any help.

Um. I only see the photo of the plant, not the close-up.

Jean, I didn't realize the system only accepts one photo with an initial posting, and won't permit another picture with a follow up on the same thread. I'll try to start a new thread called Sudden Death Syndrome II and see if the close-up picture will be accepted. Thanks for letting me know. Cliff

A simple trick a number of people don't seem to know: All you need do to followup on the same thread is to change the subject line.
