Shrinking, dying stems

The stems on two of my plants seem to be shriveling and dying. While production on one of them has been outstanding, I would still like to know what the cause of this is as other plants may not be so robust. Also, the leaves tend to yellow and die as you can see in the pictures, but the two symptoms may be related.

I have no idea what type of plant this is (if you recognize it, let me know), but it produced well in temps upwards of 105 F when everyone else told me it wouldn't. Fruit isn't bad, but has an unusually large green core inside each tomato of you don't let it ripen all the way on the vine.

The one that has no fruit is a BHN 444. It's too young to produce and probably won't as late as it is in the season. Hey, it was $1.00. What did I have to lose?

If I can't get the images posted, I'll respond to my own post and post a URL.
