Newbie in search of advice!

Hi,
I'm interested in having some topiary creations of my own and would like to know what tree/shrubs are best suited for beginners (ie. easy to train, easy to trim and shape) Any ideas appreciated. *I'll probably start off with a "ball shape" since it appears to be the most easiest to accomplish.

In zone 2b, it's a bit difficult for me to recommend a plant. I was going to suggest a boxwood, but I don't really know how it will do in your climate.

RE: Newbie in search of advice!

hey I am a newbie to! I also want to make the "standard" or Lollypop as it is sometimes called.

I am making them from herbs, This little book is only like $6 and it tells you all kinds of good plants to use!

Here is my attempting to make a rooted cutting (which you need to have to make the topiary) http://www.mediadiva.net/topiary_lavender.

I wish i could just find somewere to buy them!
