climbing jasmine topiary (please read)

hello, i got my first standard hoop topiary today. its a jasminium polyanthum. i was hoping somone could explain how to cut it back... do i trim it down to the base to restart it each year? iv read that you trim it back heavily which is why i ask. pictures would be benificial as would video... (as im a visual learner) any advice would be FANTASTIC.

I didn't trim mine, it DIED to the ground (my carelessness ... meant to bring it inside before October, before I know it it's December :)

But the next year it came back as big as before, and I'm sure if you cut yours back it would too. Even better if you could repot it (if it came in one of those tiny gift-pots). It'll need a little re-training next year though, but that's not a biggie.
