Need a vine

Greetings. I am so excited to find you all. I am usually over on shade or hosta. I procured two four foot "christmas" angels. My vision is to turn them into topiaries. I have two different wild vines growing in my woods. A friend suggested I use a smaller leafed vine. Any suggestions? It has to be hardy to zone 3 and grow in mostly light shade. Can I use a ground cover vine? I have a few but they grow roots as they crawl. Does this mean they need that nourishment to stay healthy? I read some of the posts and they were about boxwood type topiary. Any guidance would be most appreciated.
