Japanese Holly for Topiary

Has anyone used Japanese Holly for their topiary? I'm looking for a dense shrub as an alternative to Boxwood and this was suggested in one of my books. I'm just wondering how dense it is and how well it trims up. Thanks, Michelle

RE: Japanese Holly for Topiary

Japanese Holly, Ilex crenata, is a very good choice for use in topiaries. Small leaves, compact growth habit, hardy in colder climates.
