Shade tolerant topiary trees

Hello all,
I am looking for suggestions on a topiary tree that will be somewhat shade tolerant, I want to place 2 potted trees next to my door, yet the roof over-hang doesn't let in direct sunlight for the majority of the year. It is very hot here in FL and the doorway does get very bright, but it's not direct sun. I'm going for the ball on the stem look. Eugenia is in every garden center right now, yet I was told it needs direct light. Any suggestions?? Thank you!
