I would like to put two topiary bushes in pots on my front porch, and would like suggestions for an appropriate tree that will tolerate intense summer sun. They will be watered by a drip system.

I have a very large property with a creek and horse pastures. Trying to spruce up the entrance without looking like I'm trying too hard!

Some varieties that have been suggested for topiary are Waxleaf privet, scotch pine and Alberta spruce. I don't know about the pom pom look.... also I am concerned about leaves getting burned in exposed southern location.
