Evergreen shrub for cemetery topiary

I have a topiary frame coming soon. It's a replica of my cherished son's best buddy, his dog Murphy. I want to put it next to my son's headstone (it's allowed) but have no idea where to start. I'd like it to be an evergreen, shrub-type that will survive the winters here. Thank you for your help.

Oh I'm so sorry about your son. A juniper plant or 2 may serve this purpose. Boxwood and yews. The thing is this is a very slow and deliberate process and you'd best get book on topiary shaping to assist with this project.

Thank you, Lanna. I have a beginner's book enroute, too;maybe this "project" is what I need to keep my mind busy. I appreciate your suggestions re. the types of plants.
