Pruning Spiral Shrubs

| When is the best time to prune spiral shrubs? I also have a poodle shrub that is not doing well. I have lost 2 globes on it already and I'm afraid to prune it. Does anyone know what the cure might be? |

| It would help to know what type of shrub it is? I have a spiral one which is a dwarf alberta spruce tree. |
