Trying to Rescue Topiary

I am trying to bring back some topiary trees that have been neglected. They were to be used in a landscape job and were not needed so left to die. I took them home because they are still alive but some of the greenery has died away. What is the best way to help them survive. Re-potting? Fert? Cutting off dead areas even though it would change the shape? Any advice would be helpful.

Depends on how bad it is, what kind of plant, and how big the damaged areas are.

It could be a matter of opening up the dead areas and encouraging some growth, or if it's bad, could take many years. Topiary (at least what I think of as topiary) takes years to shape. If it's one of those wire-frame, vine based things, you probably will take different approach.

Why kind of plant is it? Boxwood, yew, barberry, privet?

As fescuedream says, without knowing what type of plant and extent of damage the only guess would be to cut away dead areas to encourage new growth. Were they grown in pots you say?
