What Kind of Trimmers to Use for Topiary?

| Can anyone make any suggestions about what kind/s of trimmers I should use for boxwood and youpon topiary rounded forms in pots? I want the very precise, clipped look I see in magazines, but mine dont seem to look like this. I would be appreciative of any growing suggestions, or any other types of suggestions to get this formal, clipped look on my plants. Thank you! |

| Any good quality trimming shears that feels like you have a good firm grip in your hand will serve the purpose. I like to keep mine sharp and clean. Would love to be able to give you helpful hints on Boxwood. I like Boxwood but is appears that Boxwood does not like me. ;-] Ankrara's Hobby Corner

| Re. Trimmers - I use Felco secateurs for larger topiary, but like to use the lighter sheep shears for final shaping, and for boxwood topiaries. I don't know where you can get them in the states, but Lee Valley Tools Ltd. is an Ontario-based mail-order source for gardening, woodworking tools, etc. They have sheep shears on p. 45 of their current Xmas gift catalogue for $8.95. They also have a website at www.leevalley.com. Good luck! - Laurel |
