Standards (standard trees)

Any suggestions as to what tropicals (Zone 10+) could be trained into standards, preferably flowering ones, which don't need staking? Also, how many years would this take? Thanks

Lots of plants make great standards but if you are on a budget
young plants will be cheaper but most likely need staking
while being trained first season or two.
Hibiscus, abutilon(flowering maple), fuchsias, geraniums,
jasmines and tibouchina are some favorites.

ps Brugmansia is a fast growing plant that needs no staking
and has fragrant blossoms all summer, try it.

read lots on the brugmansia's they are very susceptible to diseases, namely virii (viruses). when the temp gets over 80F it starts and if it gets hurt. but they are fun just the same.
