Well Labeled Rose Gardens - Vancouver & Victoria, BC

I'm planning a June trip to Seattle, Washington and Vancouver & Victoria, BC. I would like to visit botanic and/or display gardens and nurseries where I may be able to photograph Old Garden Roses in bloom. Other than the obvious (Buchart in Victoria, the rose garden in Portland, OR)do you have any other recommendations?

Found this message in a search for Vancouver BC, there is VanDusen gardens in Vancouver. It's a really big, beautiful garden. If you do a google search, you'll find it and can read all about it. Also only a few blocks from it is the Queen Elizabeth park and Macmillan Bloedel Conservatory. Worth seeing!

There is a commercial rose producer called The Old Rose Nursery on Hornby Island, near Nanaimo, B.C. Hornby Island is a pastoral spot, if a bit out of the way. The Old Rose Nursery has many beautiful heritage type roses. They grow all their own roses on their own roots, and they do sell retail. You can see the glorious parent plants if you go there. I think they have a web site, but I'm sorry, I don't have a note of it. A google search would likely locate it.

If you are interested in wild roses at all they have spectacular plants of various Asian species (and primary hybrids) in the Lam Asian Garden at U.B.C., Vancouver. The Rosa helenae there covered an entire red alder tree before it (the tree) broke up; the R. filipes 'Kiftsgate' might now go as far up a grand fir as the original plant (in England) is wide - and so on.

Just in case people are still travelling to Victoria, do not miss the rose gardens at Government House. There are two gardens, one of David Austin roses and a much larger one, with trellises & beds. Government House gardens are open from dawn to dusk, unless the Queen or other Royals are in residence. No charge for entry. Good place to meet locals walking their dogs in the early am.

Thursday is particularly good day to visit as the volunteers are gardening in the Am 10 - 12.00 so they will answer your questions.
