We are driving out to Yellowstone in July. Expect to travel through Nebraska and Kansas and of course Wyoming. Are there any garden suggestions out in these areas? Nursery or Winery Suggestions?

I was there last summer. My # 1 suggestion is that you take at least 2 days to see Yellowstone. (My B-I-L & DH took me throught the WHOLE park in 1 day & it was similar to a scavenger hunt....rush to the next site and wait...rush and wait...we arrived back at the in-laws around 11:pm..whew

I would highly recommend that you find Big Horn Canyon/Big Horn Lake that is on the Montana/Wyoming border. That was the most awesome place I have ever seen. Dear F-I-L took us fishing for a whole day. I just did not have enough film:( Now I have a digital camera and I am going to AK this summer. Now all I need is a few 64mg disk and a pack of crackers.

Hope this isn't too late for your July trip. If you are traveling through Lincoln, Nebraska, the Sunken Gardens on 27th Street are beautiful. The gardens are maintained by the city and there is no admission charge. There is a shade garden, waterfall, reflecting pond and many annuals.

Also, if you happen to go through Steamboat Springs, Colorado coming or going to Yellowstone, there is a lovely botanical garden maintained by volunteers. No admission charge. This is mostly a sunny perennial garden with a pond.

If you are on the Colorado Interstate, the Betty Ford Garden in Vail, Colorado is also lovely. No admission. It has been several years since I was there, but I recall it as having both sun and shade perennial areas. Very nice

All of these gardens are well maintained and are in better condition than some places where you would pay a hefty admission price.

Have a wonderful trip -- everyone should see Yellowstone at least once!
