Oh! Without hesitation, I say, "GO"! We were there the middle of May last year and it was the highlight of our trip! We spent a week in the Netherlands - actually went to see our son who was studying in Leiden at the time - and then spent another week in SW England before returning home.

I'd suggest trying to work it into your schedule as early as possible, as it is getting late, but they layer their planting of bulbs so there are always bulbs blooming. I think they close May 24, if I remember right, but we thought they would still have tulips blooming at that time the way they looked when we were there!

It was absolutely the highlight of our trip - and the reason I made and planted two new flowerbeds - full of over 1000 spring bulbs last fall. I had my own miniature Keukenhof. It was absolutely like walking through a rainbow! Make sure to allow at least half a day - if not more. We got there about 10:00 in the morning and shut the place down. The place can't be described. I was able to get to Keukenhof on May 14th. Despite the light but steady rain and lack of sun, it was still very impressive. You could tell it was getting later into the season though. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of visiting gardens but this was certainly worth the trip even though I didn't get to see the place at it's best. A visit a couple weeks earlier on a nice sunny day I'm sure would be just amazing.

We were there May 12th of this year and it was beautiful. We were also visiting our son studying in Leiden! Be sure and visit the botanical garden at the University of Leiden. It is not commercialized like Kuekenhof, but for serious horticultural study. We didn't understand any of the language, but just enjoyed the unusual things we saw... especially magnificent old trees. It was a nice place to get away from crowds of tourists and enjoy the outdoors.
