I'm traveling to Australia/New Zealand in October/November

Hi! I'd love to know what botanical and community gardens I should visit. We'll arrive in Sydney on October 12, and leave from there on November 10. We'll be traveling by train through Melbourne, Adelaide, and Darwin. Other possible stops are Cairns, Brisbane, and Perth. Also, we may possibly go to New Zealand the first week of November. My job is Manager of the Common Ground Garden Program, part of the University of California Cooperative Extension--I train Master Gardener volunteers to help low-income county residents to grow more food. So, I'm interested in visiting not only the "pretty" gardens, but the working gardens and gardeners. If possible, please respond by July 5. Thanks!

Not familar with Aussie gardens ,but spent last January touring gardens in New Zealand.. They have awesome gardens in almost every little town.. Christchurch is known as the garden city and every where you look are wonderful personal gardens and the botanical garden is lush and filled with all kinds of different types of gardens and the ost magnifcent trees I have ever seen..I feel in love with a New Zealand breed rose called Dublin Bay and as we had spent some time at Dublin Bay on lake Wanaka I had to have tis rose... I now have 2 of them growing in my rose courtyard and no blooms yet,but eagerly awaiting the big velvety roses..

I also planted a rose I fell in love with in New Zealand, Old Port. Wonderful color and fragrance, reminded me of David Austin's roses, and to my surprise, difficult to find here in the US. Lots of ramblers in NZ.

My response is too late to be useful to you, but I hope you enjoyed your trip, and were able to find the kind of gardens you were seeking.
