We are thinking of moving to Vermont (we want to get away from the congestion of south-central PA), but have never even set foot in the state! We'd like to hear from people who have either lived or traveled in Vermont, on where to live, or where not to live! What the sights are, etc. Really any kind of information would be helpful!
We are interested in a private, wooded setting that is not too remote.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Ken

boy do i have a great website for you. am getting ready to travel to north haverhill, nh for the summer. i never want to come home. employment is somewhat scarce, it can be found, more so than ever in the past that we have noticed. east ryegate is beautiful. checkout as much on the web that you can find - the difference between vt & nh, such as governor dean vs. gov. jean. realestate taxes, i know last year they were talking about realestate rebate checks. my husband works for kimberly-clark in chester, pa & my in-laws have a 65 acre farm in n. haverhill. we tried two years ago to transfer from chester to e. ryegate but i guess they all fell over at his salary. you might have to settle for alot less in salary but everything else makes up for it. just the smell of the sweet air is lst on my list. well the website is www.nnerealestate.com. i look at this alot !!!!!!!!!! just finished again late last night. please enjoy -remember there is no tax in nh check out the website and ENJOY !!!

I have lived in Vermont for a short time, but also know alot about it as my sister went to college there (Middlebury), my husband lived there and we traveled all over when we lived there together. It is one of the most fabulous states in the US! I wish I could have stayed there but like the other people who posted said, it is hard to find work there. The climate really varies depending on where you lived. We lived in Bennington, in southern VT and the climate was more like a zone 5. Some great towns are Brattleboro, artsy/hippie-ish, Middlebury, more preppy, cute college town, Montpelier, surprisingly sophisticated and interesting, the state capitol and the biggest city, Burlington, home to Univ. of VT, full of interesting restaurants bookstores restaurants, on Lake Champlain, hilly, great place. There are lots of touristy spots also, like VT for New Yorkers, examples are Woodstock and Manchester, not to mention ski places like Stowe. They are not the "true" VT. I hate to debunk NH but the differences between VT and NH are pretty clear. Vermont is full of curmudgeonly but charming independent thinkers, ex-hippies from the back-to-nature movement, environmentalists, transplanted city people, dairy farmers, artists, and some conservative types also. NH is more conservative politically, there are a lot of libertarians there. There are very particular laws in VT that prohibit billboards, which makes the state quite beautiful. Some really nice routes are Route 7 (Northwest route), Rte. 100, Route 89 (Highway, but gorgeous). There is nothing more beautiful in the fall then driving one of those route with the fall color. I wish you the best of luck. There is a great website called something like ilovevermont.com GOod luck and email me if you want more info

Hi, I've lived in Vt. since 1983 and can't think of living anywhere else. I have traveled extensively and still haven't seen another state I'd prefer. The growing season is short but can be extended with plastic or green houses. The job market is not easy but if you own your own company or can work from home it works well. There are quite a few high-tech jobs around. I'd check with the state page for more information regarding employment. We sometimes get a frost in early June. Fall has some of the most beautiful colors in the world and I'm not kidding. Spring and Summer are wonderful. Winter is glorious! You should take a trip up and check us out. |

| We have a lovely home in the village of McIndoe Falls, VT, not far from North Haverhill and a short distance from East Ryegate. This area of Vermont is beautiful and the small towns and villages have a strong sense of community. It is easy to find locally grown food at several regular Farmer's Mkts where you get to know the local producers. We can't say enough about this part of Vermont and would encourage anyone to move to this area. Relative to other parts of Vermont (central and southern) and to the rest of the country, nice property is reasonable. check property on line http://www.nneren.com Vermont/Caledonia Country / |
