Gardens to visit on Kauai, Hawaii???

| I'll be going to Kauai in November, and would like any ideas on gardens to visit there. I understand that there is a National Botanical Garden there, can anyone give me any more information about it, or any other public or private gardens that would be worth seeing?
Thanks

Oh my goodness, are you in for a treat. I hope this reaches you before you leave. I've vacationed on Kauai for the past 15 years, although I've been gardening only for about 6 of those. There are two NTBG sites on Kauai, one on the south side of the island (Allerton Gardens, in Poipu) and one on the north side (Lawai). Both are well worth a visit. Lawai is representative of more traditional Hawaiian flora; it took a big hit from Iniki but has recovered and reopened. There are self-guided tours. Allerton Gardens only offers guided tours, be sure to book in advance through your hotel or look them up in the phone book. Enjoy, enjoy. I envy you!

Lawai is on the North side of the island, and I loved it. Buy the self guided booklet. I learned a lot about Hawaiian culture and even gave a speech on it!

Aloha! Kauai is our most favorite place in the world to visit. the whole island is a garden. We did the Allerton Gardens tour, in Poipu, and it's well worth the time and money. EnJoy!

Allerton Gardens. We had a wonderful "kooky" but informed tour guide and the gardens were simply beautiful. This was in April 2001. Enjoy.
