How about some morning glories?They are easy to grow and re-seed themselves.And they last till frost.

How about a passion flower vine? There are several varieties that are pretty cold-hardy, they will cover a mailbox with a little help, and the flowers can be spectacular.

Mandevilla laxa has been overwintering here outdoors for the past three years. It climbs 12 feet high each summer with white flowers and dies back to the ground each winter.

A big white Henryii clematis engulfed my neighbor's mailbox in Forest Park, some years back. It was gorgeous and hardly cared for after it was planted.

Here in zone 5, we keep the mandevilla in pots. In the fall we cut them back and put in the basement, watering very sparingly until about February. In May we put the pots back out and they thrive, climbing up the trellis to 15-20 feet. If we planted them in the ground, they would never survive.

I live in zone 6 and I keep all my mandevillas in pots instead of putting them in the ground. I overwinter them in our unheated garage and they come back every year. I put them in the innermost corner of the garage. I get a cheap laundry basket and lay newspaper on the bottom. I set the pots in the basket and crumple up newspaper between the plants and the basket and then cover the entire thing up with a blanket and leave it until spring. They loose all their leaves but leaf out again in the spring.

Its difficult to over winter a madevilla and keep it growing ,, Like their relatives , the plumerias and oleanders, they can dry out all winter ,., lose most of their leaves and then recover quickly the following summer

I have a Mandevilla plant that is in a container on my deck here in Connecticut. I know it won't survive the winter outdoors, and have already brought it in the house and placed it in a bright area new a window. Can I keep it growing inside until next year, or will it still die off ? If it is possible to keep it growing inside, what special attention will it need ?

Marge,I have the same delema,at present mine is blooming and twining all over the place. I hate to cut it back and am wondering if I keep it in a bright window if it will survive the winter thank you
