Taro--Which side is up?

| I picked up a few taro the other day that have eyes but am confused on which way to plant these--can someone help me please?
The larger one has several eyes, all sprouting from the long-side and the smaller bulbs have an eye coming out the end that has the fine hair. Are the "eyes" the sprouting leaves? How would you suggest I plant these? I'm gathering from what I've read that they can be planted in soil or water to get them started.
Thanks!

| Hiya! The advice I received from kiwilad on the previous string was to cut the taro bulb off one inch below the eye and pot it up- just like with a potato. It sure works- the 85 cent pc I picked up is now over a foot tall and is starting its third full leaf (they're huge!!). After first frost, I will get a bunch more and start them right out in the garden- they'll probably do even better out there than in a dark house in a small pot! Happy Gardening! | Thanks so much for answering me Rhonda! I'm going to have to clarify this though because I've never really planted a potato before either--You cut the taro one inch below the eye and then you plant the "eye" up (as opposed to planting the cut up), correct? Thanks |

| "Eyes up" is correct - cut side down. Dust the cut side with cinnamon or a fungicide before planting OR let it dry for 24 hours to prevent rotting. |
