Here in B'ham, all three of mine have a couple of leaves already....I uncovered them about three weeks ago.

hey in an earlier post of yours I asked you a question about your Tetrapanax sreroidal giant. Did you get yours from Plant Delights? How tall did it get last summer? Has it woke up yet this year? Thanks!

Yes, I got my Tetrapanax steroidal giant at Plant Delights. It got about 5 feet tall - really took off, and the leaves were HUGE (about 3 feet or more)! It died back in the winter, but the main stalk remained. It is back, with leaves about a foot across already, sprouting just from the top. It looks like one of those plants in the background on the pages of a Dr. Seuss book. It sent out a runner that appeared 1-2 weeks ago, about 5 feet away, and that has a couple of leaves low to the ground. I can't see the runner - just the new leaves/plant. If I can figure out how to post photos, I'll do so. (Somebody told me last year, and I have to look up that thread again.) Sorry I never got back to you, but thanks so much for reminding me.

I am going to try it this year with heavy mulch to see what happens. I am in Zone 7a, but I guess it is worth a try.

Good luck. Mine has grown to over 6 feet now, with lots of leaves. The little one that is coming from the one runner is about a foot tall now. Definitely worth trying.

Wow! if that is what I can expect from mine I am excited. I sure hope it comes back like my Musa Basjoo.
