spider plants survived

Last spring I transplanted some spider plant offsets in a shady flowerbed, they were far cheaper than some of the expensive variegated grasses(I already had a houseplant, which made the offsets). They did well and looked good. Today I see they are coming up again from the roots. Soil is silty loam, site is sloped, southern exposure. My zone is lsted as a 6, and we hit zero F once or twice, but this was afairly mild winter.

Funny, I tried propagating some spider offsets indoors during the fall, almost all have died!
