Palms in piedmont of North Carolina?

summeronmymind

Does anyone have any suggestions for palm trees that would make it here over winter? Besides weather, my only concern is a few rabbits that love tender shoots. This is a backyard facing East. I've been very successful with Japanese ornamental banana trees, which die back in winter and get 20 - 25 feet tall about the second year, with lots of babies. Also elephant ears galore, and huge, along with some flowering annuals (hibiscus, passion, morning glories) that keep up the Caribbean look, but die in winter. I ordered some palm seeds from a place called Digital Raingardens on the net. They are trachycarpus fortunei. Will these grow here and get to a respectable height anytime soon?
