Hardy crotons?

One of the things that are so common in Hawaii and southern Florida as landsacape plants are crotons. I have them as housplants, but I have always imagined that we would have to settle for acuba in shade and euonamus japonica in the sun as substitutes for the color and structure of crotons outdoors here.(although those plant are basicly green, white and yellow rather than the bright reds and oranges often found in crotons). It is one of the plants I imagine I just can't grow in the ground in Northern CA. Or can I?

Has anyone ever heard of a hardy (at least relatively hardy)croton?
